We were given an exception to send 1 9-ball team to the 9-Ball National Championships this year. The team that won in Central Ohio was Sportsmens out of Sportsman's Billiard Club in Columbus. Out of 262 teams, our team placed 9th! What a good finish for only having one 9-ball team represent our area. Good job team! We thank all teams who went out to Vegas on behalf of our league.
We will not be able to send a 9-ball team to the National Championships in the future if we do not have 14 teams participating by the spring session. We need you to help get more teams started.
SUMMER SESSION SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD:
The team that gets the Sportsmanship award for the summer session is Philly's out of Philly's Bar and Grill in Marysville. The team players were: Captain, Chad Fryman; Paul Singleton; James Jarvis; Myung Hyun; Lora Wallace; Indie Singleton; Paul Nelson; and Herman Harrison Jr. This team will be receiving individual trophies for Sportsmen of the Session. Teams that tied for 2nd were: 8 Ball Knights out of Golden 8 Ball (Captain Billy Armstrong) and S.O. Just Do it out of Steppin Out in Marysville (Captain Richard Jordan).
Question for all of you. Do you think the team that wins the Sportsmenship award for the session should get an automatic bid into the Tri-Cup?
SUMMER PRIZE FUND:
All checks for the summer session were mailed by the end of August. If the captain has not yet cashed the check, please do so asap and distribute to the team. We have heard many comments that players do not even know that there is a prize fund. Some captains make the decision what to do with the money without consulting with team players. This money belongs to the entire team. Please make the decision as a team as what to do with the checks. More than $22,130.00 was distributed for the summer session.

FALL SESSION 2004:
ADDITION OF NEW EMPLOYEE:
We have added Donna to our staff. She has been working in the office for 5 weeks now. Some of you may have met her during the tournament. We would like to welcome her aboard!
We are in our 5th week of the fall session. There have been some problems that need to be addressed:
- One drop bar had money stolen week one, which included a lot of membership fees in each envelope. Many of the envelopes had cash in them. Also, every session, money mailed into us somehow ends up disappearing as well. Please, whether you are a drop team or a mail team, send either a check or money order with your scoresheet, at least during the first 2-3 weeks. If you have to send cash, please reduce it down to a 20 and a 10.
- Bar Sponsor Fees: For some reason, we can not get this under control. A captain will give the bar the envelope and the bar owner mails the envelope to us. There is no address on it! So it may float around in the mail system for a long time until it reaches us. Or it may never reach us at all. Please put the bar sponsor envelope inside your envelopes after getting the money from the bar owner. And, once again, it makes sense to send a check or money order.
- We are only getting comments from about 10% of the teams. We cannot check skill levels of players without the surveys being filled out.
SINGLES BOARDS:
4 singles boards were run at the tri-cup this last weekend.
Winners of the boards were:
|
Bruce Spears
|
Stephens, Marysville
|
|
Jason Burns
|
Red Rock Café, Delaware
|
|
Jesse Laforteza
|
Red Rock Café, Delaware
|
|
John Keep
|
Lucky's Grille & Billiard, Hilliard
|
Way to go! These 4 will be competing in March with several other single boards winners.
Stephens out of Marysville will be running a singles board in the next few weeks. We will notify you of the date and time!
Call now to run a singles board. Be one of the contestants to participate in the next Singles Regional. Who knows, you may be making the next trip to Vegas!
All that is required is a person willing to take time to set a date and time. It doesn't matter where the tournament is run. It can be in someone's basement! Make an evening out of it. Up to 8 players can participate. The total cost for the board is $120. With 8 participants, each player will pay $15. The fewer participants, the greater the cost.
We encourage you to run boards for the same skill levels(ex. 3's & 4's). It is no fun for a 3 to be in a singles tournament against a 7. As you can see above, the Regional separates the skill levels giving everyone a chance to go to Vegas. The more boards we run, the more participants we have in the regional and the better the chance to hold the regional in Columbus.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Tim David and Melissa Rentler had a little girl the 4th of September. Kylie, 6 lbs 4 oz. 19 inches long.
Burton and Amanda Combs had a little girl, Cali, August 18. 6 lbs, 2 oz. 18-1/4 in. long.
Mary Shepherd had back surgery a couple of weeks ago and although she is either in a wheelchair or using a cane, she is doing great!
Please e-mail us if you have any information you would like to add to the newsletter.
