Out of the 8 winners, 3 were from the Central Ohio area. Wish them good luck as they head for Berlin, CT to compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship on November 7-9. A total of 128 men will be competing for the title of U.S. Amateur Champion in the men's division and 16 women will be competing for the U.S. Amateur Champion in the women's division. We wish every one of these players luck, especially the ones from Central Ohio!!

DIVISION REPRESENTATIVES:
THE APA OF CENTRAL OHIO HAS GROWN IN BOTH AREA SIZE AND TEAM COUNT. THEREFORE, THE JOB OF THE LEAGUE OPERATOR HAS BECOME MORE COMPLEX AND TIME CONSUMING. BECAUSE OF THIS, WE HAVE PUT MORE EMPHASIS ON DIVISION REPS FOR AREA DEVELOPMENT AND TEAM RETENTION.
SOME EXPECTATIONS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AS A RESULT OF THE ABOVE NEED. THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
THE DIVISION REP:
- NEEDS TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE APA NATIONAL RULES AND LOCAL BY-LAWS.
- NEEDS TO MAKE HIMSELF/HERSELF AVAILABLE ON LEAGUE NIGHT FOR ANY QUESTIONS CAPTAINS MAY HAVE ABOUT PARTICULAR RULINGS. NOT ALL QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED BY DIVISION REPS (SUCH AS WHAT A PLAYER’S SKILL LEVEL IS). ONLY THE LEAGUE OFFICE CAN ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS.
- NEEDS TO BRING INTO THE LEAGUE NEW LOCATIONS. EITHER BY CONTACTING THEM YOURSELF OR INVOLVING THE LEAGUE OFFICE IN THE PROCESS.
- NEEDS TO BRING TEAMS INTO THE LEAGUE.
- NEEDS TO BE INVOLVED IN RUNNING SINGLES BOARDS
- NEEDS TO HELP OUT AT TOURNAMENTS. THERE ARE SEVERAL OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP: 1) TRI-CUPS, 2) CITY REGIONAL, 3) MVP TOURNAMENTS, 4) US AMATEUR TOURNAMENTS
- NEEDS TO ATTEND DIVISION REPRESENTATIVE MEETINGS AND BE PREPARED TO TALK ABOUT HIS/HER AREA.
What we don't want to see out of Division Reps:
- A Division Rep's concern is only to get other players on other teams skill levels raised.
- A Division Rep who does not assess his/her own players in a fair manner and sandbags to keep skill levels down. This is not good representation in front of other players.
- An unhealthy attitude toward other teams and players. You become a representative of the APA and must be courteous and respectful at all times
Issues that should be handled by the League Office and not the Division Rep:
- Points missing on scoresheets, past due money.
- Player skill levels and player numbers
- Questions about players' skill levels (why did they go up?)
The League Office hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Captains receive their scoresheets and information in plenty of time to call us during those hours. We have added a 2nd line in our office to accommodate incoming calls. When you call our regular office line 833-1009 and it is busy, your call will transfer over to the 2nd line. If both
lines are busy we have voice mail for your convenience. Please be considerate and keep your calls short and to the point so we can keep lines as free as possible.

MATCHES PLAYED PLAQUES:
We offer a very nice personalized plaque for players who are interested in adding this to the décor of your home. The plaque is only $5.00 to players. Our office then sends out plates for 100, 200, 300, etc. total matches played. Plates are connect to the bottom of the plaque you purchase. You do not need to have 100 matches played in order to purchase a plaque.
We order these plaques several times a year. In order to keep shipping and handling costs down, we do, however, wait until we have enough interest and money from players to purchase several at a time. There may be a waiting period of 2 months from the time you order one.
FALL SESSION 2003:
We have added two new areas to the Central Ohio APA League. Nelsonville and Athens now are a part of our League. We would like to welcome them into league play and look forward to having them participate in our higher level tournaments!!
SINGLE BOARD QUALIFIERS:
Now is a great time to get involvd in the APA Singles Program. As a member of the APA you can get involved in the Singles program once you have 10 scores and are currently an active player on a team.
You get involved by playing on a Singles Qualifier Board. There are several options to running the boards that can be done in different ways and at different costs.
Contact the League Office to find out how you can either participate or actually run a Singles Qualifier Board. We will keep you posted of Host Locations that are holding qualifier events.
The window of opportunity to get qualified for the next Singles Regional is from now till November 30, 2003. Don't wait until the last week to try. The next Singles Regional will be held right here in Columbus on March 5 & 6. So, why not be part of the big show and get qualified now.
Once qualified through the Singles Boards, there is no charge for pool at the regionals or nationals. For members advancing on to the Nationals in Las Vegas, your room is paid for and a travel allowance is provided.
PERSONAL NOTES:
Jeff Tracy and Christina (Morrison) were married during the Summer Tri-Cup held in September. Congratulations and best wishes!!
